Background of the Study:
Linguistic diversity, the coexistence of multiple languages within a community, profoundly influences social interactions and collective identity. In Ogoja Local Government Area, Cross River State, the presence of diverse languages enriches cultural experiences while also posing potential challenges to community cohesion (Okafor, 2023; Udo, 2024). Multilingual environments can foster social trust and creativity; however, they may also lead to communication barriers and misunderstandings if not effectively managed (Bassey, 2023). The dynamic interplay between different linguistic groups can either strengthen or fragment community bonds. Recent research emphasizes the need to balance diversity with inclusivity to promote harmonious social integration (Ezenwa, 2024).
Statement of the Problem:
Despite the cultural richness brought by linguistic diversity in Ogoja, language differences sometimes hinder community cohesion. Communication barriers between different language groups can lead to social fragmentation, challenging collective development and trust (Okafor, 2023; Bassey, 2023).
